APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Attempts to install z/OS Explorer installation package directly
from the Explorer for zOS site fails to present an option to
specify the HTTP Proxy configuration, therefore, if the client
network requires an HTTP proxy the installation package provided
will not be able to connect to the IBM server to complete the
install.

Local fix

  • Install Installation Manager separately, configure the HTTP
proxy server then point to the IBM repository for z/OS Explorer
to complete the installation.

Problem summary

  • Installation Manager repositories can be cloned using IBM
package utility and hosted internally which has the same effect
as a proxy server redirect.  The only aspect where Installation
Manager would require a proxy server redirect was when
contacting jazz.net during an update as part of the Rational
Team Concert package group.

Problem conclusion

  • The requirement to contact jazz.net during an update has been
removed which means that there is no dialback to an internet
hosted URL during installation or update that cannot be
redirected using Installation Manager preferences and repository
redirect.

In addition we are working to make products on z/OS Explorer
Aqua delivered through Installation Manager available as
stand-alone .zip file repositories to avoid the use of IBM
package utility.  This will complement the above solution.
