Error description

  • When building project in AD 5.1.0.3 Build Client, we encounter
on several COBOL programs the following message during build:

[10/1/2019  8:41 AM]  (3218) : Warning [999] : Syntax error: '('
[10/1/2019  8:41 AM]  (4353) : Warning [999] : Syntax error: '('

Problem summary

  •  Syntax error: '(' was received during Cobol program Build

Problem conclusion

  • The "Syntax error: '('" issue was generated by the fact that our
 Cobol compiler expected only literals as parameter for
functions. The fix consists in updating the Cobol compiler to
treat also expressions as function parameters.
