Applying maintenance


IMS Online Reorganization Facility maintenance sometimes requires the IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules in online IMS subsystems to be refreshed. You can refresh the load modules without recycling the IMS subsystem by using the HRFYUTIL utility.


Before you begin

  • Ensure that both IMS Online Reorganization Facility and the IMS Tools Online System Interface component are installed.
  • The online IMS subsystems must have previously been started with a load library that includes all the IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules specified in the STEPLIB or JOBLIB of IMS control regions.
    Attention: You must not specify the SMP/E-managed IMS Online Reorganization Facility library directly in the STEPLIB or JOBLIB because SMP/E needs exclusive control of the library when applying maintenance.
  • You must run the HRFYUTIL job on the same z/OS system on which the IMS control region is running for the targeted IMS subsystem. This job fails if there are any IMS Online Reorganization Facility jobs running at that time.

 

Restriction: Not all maintenance updates can be installed by this procedure because some maintenance updates still require recycling IMS subsystems.


Procedure

Complete the following steps to apply IMS Online Reorganization Facility maintenance to an online IMS subsystem:

1. Apply the maintenance to the SMP/E-managed IMS Online Reorganization Facility libraries.

2. Update the load library in the STEPLIB or JOBLIB of each IMS control region with the latest IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules.

3. Refresh the IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules in each online IMS subsystem by using the REFRESH command of the HRFYUTIL utility. The following example JCL shows the job to run the REFRESH command. Substitute the appropriate values for the italicized text in the JCL and submit the job.

Results

The IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules are reloaded in each online IMS subsystem. You can verify the current maintenance level by the messages in the control region. When IMS control region is started, the messages that shows the build dates of IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules are displayed in the MSGPRINT DD output of the control region.  After running the REFRESH command, the same set of messages are displayed with the build dates of the refreshed load modules. In the following example output, the IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules are reloaded by the REFRESH command, and a new version of HRFOXCF load module becomes effective in online subsystem IMS1.

REFRESH

The REFRESH command refreshes the IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules in an online system. The load modules are reloaded from the STEPLIB or JOBLIB DD concatenation of the IMS control region. This command fails if it is executed while IMS Online Reorganization Facility jobs are running.

Restriction: Not all the IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules are reload by this command because some modules are reloaded only when IMS is recycled.

Required. Indicates the target IMS subsystem ID in which the IMS Online Reorganization Facility load modules are reloaded.

Format: Any valid 1- to 4-character subsystem ID.

Default: None.

HRF01544A (jobname): Reply 'N', 'T',[ 'C',] or 'A'

Explanation: This WTOR message is issued after message HRF01544I. This message indicates that the IMS Online Reorganization Facility job is waiting for an operator response.
System action: Processing waits for an operator response. During the wait, the IMS Online Reorganization Facility job continues reorganization in the background. If the job is ready for the Takeover phase, it goes into idle mode and waits for a response to the WTOR message.
User response: Take one of the actions listed in the preceding HRF01544I message.
