Product readme

Abstract

Readme files for server components are available when there is a fix pack update.

Content

Beginning with Version 7.1.3, IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager is now IBM Spectrum Protect™. Some applications such as the software fulfillment systems and IBM License Metric Tool use the new product name. However, the software and its product documentation continue to use the Tivoli Storage Manager product name. To learn more about the rebranding transition, see technote 1963634.

Updates, limitations, and known problems

Updates, limitations, and known problems are documented in the form of technotes in the Support knowledge base at http://www.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/Overview/Software/Tivoli/Tivoli_Storage_Manager. As problems are discovered and resolved, IBM Software Support updates the knowledge base. By searching the knowledge base, you can find workarounds or solutions to problems.

Updates

QUERY EXTENTUPDATES command update
You must specify a storage pool name when you issue the QUERY EXTENTUPDATES command. The syntax of the command is as follows:
>>-Query EXTENTUPDates pool_name---------------------------------><
Use this command to display information about updates to data extents in a directory-container storage pool.

Message ANR3664I upgraded to a Warning level message
If you get this message, you cannot run file-level restore operations. The message changed from Informational to Warning.

Updates in the processor value unit (PVU) licensing model
If you are running IBM Spectrum Protect under the PVU licensing model, and you installed one or more clients on a system that uses VMware virtualization software, the following guidelines apply:

Updates for the SET PRODUCTOFFERING command

The SET PRODUCTOFFERING command documentation includes capacity measurements for some product offerings that are used by IBM® License Metric Tool. For the correct capacity measurements, see Technote 1964263.

For a full list of new features that were introduced in Fix Pack 7.1.3.000, see Updates for the IBM Spectrum Protect server component.

To search for information about updates in Fix Pack 7.1.3.000, which might include additional items, see Updates for IBM Spectrum Protect Fix Pack 7.1.3.000.

Limitations and known problems

At the time of publication, the following limitations and problems were known:

Cloud storage pools

Cloud storage pools are not supported on either the pLinux or zLinux platforms.

Do not run the AUDIT CONTAINER command against cloud storage pools

The AUDIT CONTAINER command requires guaranteed exclusive access to cloud storage pools to scan for inconsistencies between database information and a cloud-container storage pool to ensure the validity of the results of the scan

Node replication from a cloud storage pool to a different type of storage pool is not supported

You can only run node replication of a storage pool with a STGTYPE=CLOUD to a storage pool of the same type.

Readme file - IBM Spectrum Protect device support Fix Pack 7.1.3.000

IBM Spectrum Protect device support for Fix Pack 7.1.3.000 is available. A description is provided, along with links to device resources.

Description

This document includes information about device drivers for IBM Spectrum Protect Fix Pack 7.1.3.000.

Fix history

Device driver APARs fixed in V7.1

Supported devices
For information about supported devices and hardware, see the following links:

New device support
This release does not support new devices or libraries.
Device driver requirements
Host bus adapter requirements
For best results, connect tape drives and tape libraries to the system on their own host bus adapter (HBA). Do not share the HBA with other device types, such as DISK or CD.

Maximum number of devices that are supported by IBM Spectrum Protect device drivers
For information about the maximum number of devices that IBM Spectrum Protect device drivers can support on each operating system, see Technote 1364225.

Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) device support
Serial Attached SCSI devices can be used with some platforms, operating system versions, and architectures. For information about platforms, operating system versions, and architectures for SAS devices, see Technote 1396706.

Windows 2008 Server Core support
Windows 2008 Server Core is supported. For information about configuring devices on Windows 2008 Server Core, see Technote 1320150.

Emulex HBA driver for Oracle Solaris SPARC
To avoid IBM Spectrum Protect server hangs, install the latest level of the Emulex HBA driver on Oracle Solaris SPARC. For more information, see Technote 1217457.

Running the IBM Spectrum Protect passthru driver with a non-root user ID on Linux operating systems
For information about how a non-root user ID can use devices with the IBM Spectrum Protect passthru driver on Linux, see Technote 1321130. To ensure that non-root users can use devices that are configured with the IBM Spectrum Protect passthru driver, specify option -g or -a in the device autoconf utility. To add read and write permissions for groups to the SCSI generic driver (sg) device files, specify option -g. To add read and write permissions for all users to the sg device files, specify option -a.
For more information about Tivoli Storage Manager, see the product documentation.

Library information

  • IBM Spectrum Protect Extended Edition is required for a library with greater than four drives or greater than 48 storage slots.
  • For a library with multiple drives, a drive element address is required for the DEFINE DRIVE and UPDATE DRIVE commands. However, if the library reports drive serial numbers, you can specify ELEMENT=AUTODETECT, and the element address is not required. Alternatively, you can automatically associate a library with its drives by issuing the PERFORM LIBACTION command, and specifying ACTION=DEFINE.
  • For more information about configuring and managing storage devices, see Configuring and managing storage devices.
