Each patch contains the cumulative fixes of its predecessor. All other patches referenced in this document are obsolete.

Installation Instructions

Important Information for users of the silent install option:
When you use the silent install option on Linux platforms and specify that the MVFS should be rebuilt, a value for the key "user.CC_MVFSModuleKernelPath" is required in the response file. Please see the sample response file in technote 1351501.

You must install this update using the Updates Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager. For information on installing updates, see the topic "Updating packages by using wizard mode" in the IBM Installation Manager Knowledge Center at

Refer to technote 1380386 for detailed installation instructions.

If you plan to use Installation Manager on Solaris, Linux, or AIX in GUI mode, refer to technote 1330190 for more information.  Cadence integration downloads are now a separate download (CDSVR_extension downloads).

  • By default, the update is installed from the IBM update repository located on a remote server.

  • It is also possible to download the update and install it locally.
    1. Download the repository from the Download Package table below.
    2. Extract files to a temporary directory. In the IBM Installation Manager, click File > Preferences and add the temporary directory location to the list of repositories.
    3. Use the Update Packages wizard in the Installation Manager to complete the update.

1569987 before installing the products.

If you will be using the ClearCase GUIs, some additional Operating System packages may be required. Please see the Detailed System Requirements in the above Supporting Documentation section for more information.

The ClearCase Remote Client and CMAPI now support SP800-131 compliance. Custom configuration may be required for integrated environments, for example, with Rational Team Concert with CCRC or with CMAPI applications not using IBM JRE. Refer to technote 1666060 for more information.

Note: Descriptions of resolved defects are included in the ux_readme and windows_readme files in the Download package table. The readme files are also included in each patch bundle; therefore, you need not download the readme separately when downloading the patch.

How critical is this fix?

Impact Assessment
Impact Description

This is a maintenance release. This fixpack addresses vulnerabilities in OpenSSL and IBM Java runtime. Review the Security bulletins CVE-2018-0739 (OpenSSL) and CVE-2018-2633,CVE-2018-2603,CVE-2018-2579,CVE-2018-2602,CVE-2018-2794,CVE-2018-2783 (Java runtime) for more information. The release also contains fixes for client-reported and internally found defects.


Regression: An error in the Maintenance Delivery Vehicle (MDV) that produces incorrect or unexpected behavior causing a supported feature to stop functioning as designed.
This includes:

  • Coding errors that cause a regression
  • Documentation or packaging problems that cause a regression
  • Errors reported in a new function delivered in a MDV that cause a regression


Incomplete: An error in the MDV has not regressed, but does not work as designed.
This includes:

  • Fixed APARs which did not solve the original problem but did not break anything new
  • APARs reporting documentation errors, such as readme errors, that cause problems applying an MDV but do not lead to a regression


  • Regression and incomplete APARs are considered fix-in-error or MDV-in-error
  • Definitions above apply only to valid APARs that result in product fixes (APARs returned as working-as-designed are not assessed for being fix-in-error)
  • Issues in major releases due to new functionality do not apply in this definition

There are no known regressions to report.

If you previously used the linux_x86_64 or linux_ppc64le platforms for VOB storage with the 9.0.1,, or release, please read the compatibility information in technote 2004783 before upgrading to this release.

HP and AIX systems can be upgraded directly to this release only from ClearCase 8.0.1.x installations. To upgrade from any earlier releases on thise systems, ClearCase must be uninstalled first and then ClearCase 9.0.1.x can be installed. This is due to a limitation of Installation Manager. Refer to technote 1648052.

There is no ClearTeam Explorer (ctexplorer) available for HP. Refer to technote 1978532.

On Solaris platforms, CCRC cannot be installed separately from ClearCase using the download. CCRC/ClearTeam Explorer must be installed by installing ClearCase. Refer to technote 1978325.

ClearCase dynamic view storage on BTRFS does not work correctly on SLES12 SP2. Refer to technote 2004584.

Automatic views: Removal of ClearCase foundation fails after addition of automatic view support. Refer to technote 1698313.

Automatic views: "Subtractive" install of snapshot view support renders client unusable. Refer to technote 1698358.

Before you upgrade servers that deploy web components, read technote 1572830. Specifically, refer to the section labeled "Avoiding Problems".

Before you upgrade to this release from ClearCase MultiSite 8.0.0.x (including 8.0) on servers that have feature level 6 VOB families, refer to technote 1609810 for important information.

If you have previously modified the ClearCase default extended naming symbol (@@) on any Windows 64-bit system, review technote 1618052. After upgrading to this release, you will need to reconfigure the symbol's value.
