Installation Instructions

Review the Installing Rational Change section in the knowledge center.

Installing the Interim Fix:

Before you begin, ensure that you have performed a successful backup of your Rational Change databases.

  1. Log in to the machine where Rational Change is installed as the user who installed Rational Change.
  2. If you have customized any of the Rational Change attribute controls, after installing this iFix, you need to manually apply the customization.
    • The attribute controls are at CHANGE_APP_HOME/WEB-INF/wsconfig/templates/pt/include/attr_controls.
    • After the iFix is installed, you can refer to the old copy of the files backed up at CHANGE_APP_HOME/WEB-INF/packages/rc5.3.0.6/backup_<timestamp>
  3. Unzip (Windows) or untar (UNIX) the patch file into <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/packages.
    The resultant directory will have the name rc<patch version>.
    For example, on UNIX:
    $ cd <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/packages
    $ tar xvf <file path>
  4. Login to Rational Change as Admin, and click the System Administration toolbar link.
  5. You can now select this package from the Package Installer tab which will show it under Available Packages and click the Install button.
  6. If Rational Change is running in the WAS or WASCE application server, restart the application server and ensure Rational Change is started. Otherwise, simply stop and start Rational Change.
  7. Add below tags to "WEB-INF\web.xml" just before the commented line "<!-- The encoding filter needs to be first to correctly commit the"
  8. Stop and start Rational Change.
  9. The process package needs to be regenerated and needs to be reinstalled.

Uninstalling the iFix:

If it becomes necessary to remove this iFix after it has been installed, apply the following steps.

  1. Login to Rational Change as Admin, and click the System Administration link in the action panel.
  2. Click on the Package Installer tab, select the patch package from the Installed Packages listbox, and click the Uninstall button.
  3. Delete below tags from "WEB-INF\web.xml" just before the commented line "<!-- The encoding filter needs to be first to correctly commit the"
  4. Stop and start Rational Change.
  5. If Rational Change is running in the WAS or WASCE application server, restart the application server and ensure Rational Change is started. Otherwise, simply stop and start Rational Change.

How critical is this fix?

Impact Assessment
Impact Description

This is a security release. It contains fixes for a classloader manipulation vulnerability in Apache Struts 1 that is used by IBM Rational Change. Review Security Bulletin: Classloader Manipulation Vulnerability in Rational Change (CVE-2014-0114) for more details.


Regression: An error in the " TARGET="_blank">Maintenance Delivery Vehicle</a> (MDV) that produces incorrect or unexpected behavior causing a supported feature to stop functioning as designed.
<br>This includes:
<ul><li>Coding errors that cause a regression</li>
<li>Documentation or packaging problems that cause a regression</li>
<li>Errors reported in a new function delivered in a MDV that cause a regression</li></ul></p>
<p><strong>Incomplete:</strong> An error in the MDV has not regressed, but does not work as designed.
<br>This includes:
<ul><li>Fixed APARs which did not solve the original problem but did not break anything new</li>
<li>APARs reporting documentation errors, such as readme errors, that cause problems applying an MDV but do not lead to a regression</li></ul></p>
<ul><li>Regression and incomplete APARs are considered fix-in-error or MDV-in-error</li>
<li>Definitions above apply only to valid APARs that result in product fixes (APARs returned as <i>working-as-designed</i> are not assessed for being fix-in-error)</li>
<li>Issues in major releases due to new functionality do not apply in this definition</li></ul></strong></p>
