  5. If a customer upgraded to V8.1.2 Backup-Archive client and realized that they want to remain at a lower level in order to continue using the Backup-Archive client, can they downgrade the client?

Yes - this use case is documented in the IBM Knowledge Center article Using the web client in the new security environment. but is currently not documented.

    IBM plans to document:
If you already upgraded the backup-archive client to V8.1.2, you can uninstall it and reinstall the V8.1.0 client to continue to use the web client. The Tivoli Storage Manager server administrator needs to set the SESSIONSECURITY parameter on the node back to the TRANSITIONAL value
