Question & Answer
Question
What are the next steps after I have been onboarded to my IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud dedicated environment?
Answer
Intended Audience
IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud Dedicated customers that have already completed the Onboarding process.
Purpose
This document provides steps for testing and getting started with your IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud Dedicated environment.
Applicable versions
IBM Cognos Analytics 11.0.x (on Cloud) - Dedicated
I. Setting up user security
You have two namespaces when you log into your environment now.
1. Please log in as "ldapadmin" from the ldap namespace, do not logoff.
2. Go to Manage > Administration Console.
3. Click the logon button to login to your AD namespace simultaneously.
4. Add the AD users that you want to be Cognos Administrators as members to the Directory Administrators, Server Administrators and Report Administrators roles.
a. Go to tab Security, click Users, Groups, and Roles.
b. Click the Cognos namespace.
c. In the Actions column, click the properties button for the group or role whose membership you want to modify.
d. Click the Members tab.
e. Choose how to select members:
- To choose from listed entries, click the appropriate namespace, and then select the check boxes next to the users, groups, or roles.
- To search for entries, click Search and in the Search string box, type the phrase you want to search for. For search options, click Edit. Find and click the entry you want.
- To type the name of entries you want to add, click Type and type the names of groups, roles, or users using the following format, where a semicolon (;) separates each entry: namespace/group_name;namespace/role_name;namespace/user_name;
Here is an example:
Cognos/Authors;LDAP/scarter;
f. Click the right-arrow button and when the entries you want appear in the Selected entries box, click OK.
Tip: To remove entries from the Selected entries list, select them and click Remove. To select all entries in the list, select the check box for the list. To make the user entries visible, click Show users in the list.
g. To remove members from a Cognos group or role, in the Set Properties page, specify which users, groups, or roles to remove, and click Remove.
h. Click OK.
5. Once step 4 is complete logoff from Cognos.
6. Login as one of your new Administrators.
7. Test the application as the new admin from your namespace.
8. Please let us know once you have added users from your own namespace. We will remove the "ldap" namespace from the configuration. This task will require a restart of the content manager servers so there will be a few minutes of outage.
II. Testing Data Sources
Steps:
1. Login to your IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud environment.
Note: Although users are able to test data sources with the provided “ldapadmin” credentials, those data sources will not be visible for remaining users once we configure your own LDAP namespace. Do NOT create data sources until we have finished the Onboarding steps (VPN tunnel mapping, configuring your on premise LDAP namespace, database drivers).
2. Go to Manage > Administration Console.
3. Go to tab Configuration > Data Source Connections.
4. Create a new data source ()
5. Provide a name to your data source, click next.
6. Choose the database type (note: if your database type is not listed, choose type JDBC).
Make sure to check the “Configure JDBC connection” box. Click next.
7. Add the database details. For authentication chose “Signons”, check “Password”, “Create a signon that the Everyone group can use”. Provide a database user and password.
8. Once completed, Test the connection.
9. Repeat steps above for each data source connection needed.
III. Testing/Validating Reports
Your IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud environment has been loaded with the Cognos samples applicable to your version of IBM Cognos Analytics. The IBM Cognos Analytics samples demonstrate product features and business best practices. You can use the samples for experimenting with and sharing report design techniques and for troubleshooting.
When moving your existing on premise reports to your IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud environment it is recommended that they be validated & tested in your on premise IBM Cognos Analytics instance before moving them to your IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud instance for utilization.
You can move report objects from your on premise IBM Cognos Business Intelligence 10.x or IBM Cognos Analytics 11.x environment either through a deployment, which is discussed in this article, or you can copy the report specification.
Details on copying Report Specifications can be found in the following link:

X. CQM-DQM Migration
With the exception of Transformer Powercubes, Compatible Query Mode (CQM) is not supported on Cloud, only Dynamic Query Mode (DQM). This means you will have to open the model in Framework Manager and change the model to use DQM mode ( http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21635076 ).
