Security Bulletin

Summary

IBM WebSphere Commerce is vulnerable to an open redirect issue.

Vulnerability Details

CVEID: CVE-2017-1398
DESCRIPTION:
IBM WebSphere Commerce Enterprise, Professional, Express, and Developer could allow a remote attacker to conduct phishing attacks using an open redirect attack. By persuading a victim to visit a specially-crafted Web site, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to spoof the URL displayed to redirect a user to a malicious Web site that would appear to be trusted. This could allow the attacker to obtain highly sensitive information or conduct further attacks against the victim.
CVSS Base Score: 7.4
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/127385 for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:N/I:H/A:N)

Affected Products and Versions

WebSphere Commerce versions 8.0.0.0 and higher
WebSphere Commerce versions 7.0.0.0 and higher
WebSphere Commerce versions 6.0.0.0 and higher

Remediation/Fixes

To prevent this type of open redirect attack, implement RewriteRules to allow only known hosts to access the system. More on this is mentioned here in Blocking unrecognized hostnames.

As an example, the following can be added to your IBM HTTP Server (IHS) configuration file (httpd.conf):

    RewriteEngine ON
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !=www.mycompanyname.com
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !=mycompanyname.com
    ...
    RewriteRule .* - [F]
Note: Substitute 'mycompanyname' with the hostname(s) of your site.
