How can a user upload spreadsheet files into Cognos Analytics 11 and access the data in a Dashboard?
Answer
Steps to upload spreadsheet files are as follows:
1. Save your ‘.xlsx’ or ‘.csv’ file to a location that can be read from Cognos Analytics.
2. Login to the Cognos ‘Welcome’ dashboard.
3. On the bottom left side, click ‘Upload files’.
4. Navigate to the location where you saved your spreadsheet file, select it and click ‘Open’.
5. Verify that the data has been imported correctly before clicking ‘OK’.
6. Wait for the ‘Operation completed’ status bar to appear to confirm a successful upload.
Steps to test the data in a Dashboard:
1. Back on the ‘Welcome’ dashboard, click ‘New’ > ‘Dashboard’ before choosing any template and selecting ‘OK’.
2. Under the ‘Sources’ tab, click the plus icon and navigate to ‘My content’ before choosing the spreadsheet file. Click ‘Open’.
3. Choose any visualisation and drag in a value from the data to notice the effect.
