In the Rational DOORS client, opening help in an external browser fails

Troubleshooting

Problem

In the Rational DOORS client for Windows, if you set the Help Preferences option to open help in an external browser, the help fails to open after you restart the client.

Diagnosing The Problem

To reproduce the problem:

  1. In the Rational DOORS client for Windows, click Help -> Contents and Index.
  2. In the help window, click Help -> Preferences.
  3. Set Open help contents to In an external browser.
Result: The help successfully opens in an external browser.
  4. Close the browser window and the Rational DOORS client.
  5. Restart the Rational DOORS client and log in as same user.
  6. Click Help -> Contents and Index.
  7. The help splash screen appears for a moment but the browser does not open and the help is not displayed.

Resolving The Problem

To work around this problem:

  1. Close the Rational DOORS client.
  2. Delete this folder in the Windows Users directory:

    C:\Users\<your-user-name>\doors9.x.xHelp

This resets help to use the help browser.
