DS3500 Storage Manager client is not sending out alert notification emails on an IBM Smart Analytics System

Diagnosing The Problem

1. Open the Storage Manager client and you should see the Task Assistant in the Enterprise Management window.

2. Select Configure Alerts and in the Mail Server tab, confirm that the SMTP Mail Server address is correct.

3. Select the Email tab and confirm that the configured email addresses are correct. Use the Test button to send a test email and confirm that you are able to receive it. If you are able to receive the test email, that means that the SMTP mail server is setup correctly.

4. The Event Monitor service SMmonitor must be installed and running, or the Enterprise Management window must remain open in order to receive alert notifications, If SMmonitor is not running or the Enterprise Management window is closed, you will not receive any alert notifications from the managed storage subsystems.

5. Check that SMmonitor is running, You can start SMmonitor using the following command as root user on the monitoring station (eg. the IBM Smart Analytics System Management server).

    # SMmonitor start
