Rational Developer for i v9.0.0 - Out of service

Announced: April 23, 2013
General Availability: June 14, 2013

Rational Developer for i Announcement letter

Version 9.0.0 requires a full install. You cannot apply 9.0.0 as an update to an existing installation.

Because it is structured as a bundle, the "Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL + Modernization Tools EGL Edition" offering is available only with the Authorized User licensing metric. The other editions of Rational Developer for i are offered with the following license metrics:

  • Authorized User (AU)
  • Floating User Single Install (FUSI)
  • Token

Versions 9.0 and later of "Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL Tools" when sold as FUSI can all use the same floating license key that unlocked "Rational Developer for Power Systems Software RPG and COBOL Development Tools for i" at versions 8.0.x and 8.5.x.

Versions 9.0 and later of "Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL + Modernization Tools Java Edition" when sold as FUSI require two floating keys:

  • One key unlocks the "Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL Tools" part of the product and as just noted, this is the same key that was used to unlock this portion of "Rational Developer for Power Systems Software RPG and COBOL Development Tools for i" at version levels 8.0.x and 8.5.x.
  • The second key unlocks the "+Modernization Tools Java Edition" portion of the product, and for this part the key for versions 9.0 and later is different from the key used for the 8.0 and 8.5 versions of "Rational Developer for Power System Software Power Tools for i". So as you install version 9.0.0 or later of "Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL + Modernization Tools Java Edition" for the first time, you must visit the Rational License Key Center to get the newer floating key, and you must configure it into your license server.

For PPA customers, AU license activation kits are always version specific but are provided as part of the product installable images (for versions 8.5 and later). So for PPA customers it is not necessary to visit the Rational License Key Center to obtain updated kits. The AU activation kits also continue to be available from the Rational License Key Center for those who prefer to keep track of all their license keys there.

"Packaging" refers to how a product is named, how it is structured (for example, as one or more editions), how it is licensed, and the PIDs and part numbers used to execute transactions such as license purchases and support agreement renewals.

Extensive packaging changes were introduced as part of the Rational Developer for i 9.0.0 release. In addition to the changes described below, there were changes to the license keys for Floating User Single Install product entitlements. Please see the "Product fulfillment" tab for version 9.0.0 on this page.

Prior to version 9.0.0, the Rational Developer for i (RDi) products were marketed under either the "IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software" (RD Power) family name, or the "IBM Rational Developer for i for SOA Construction" name. The RD Power family of products included development tools for AIX and Linux on Power systems, as well as development tools for IBM i. At version 9.0.0, the "IBM Rational Developer for Power System Software" name was retired, and replaced by two new family names:

  • "IBM Rational Developer for i" (RDi)
  • "IBM Rational Developer for AIX and Linux" (RDAL)

"IBM Rational Developer for i" is currently marketed as three editions. (See the "Editions comparisons" tab of this page for more information.) Those editions and their relationships to previous product names are as follows:

  • Prior to 9.0.0, "IBM Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL Tools" was marketed as "IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software RPG and COBOL Development Tools for i".
  • Prior to 9.0.0, "IBM Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL + Modernization Tools Java Edition" was marketed as "IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software Power Tools for i".
  • Prior to 9.0.0, "IBM Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL + Modernization Tools EGL Edition" was marketed as "IBM Rational Developer for i for SOA Construction".
Like "Rational Developer for i for SOA Construction" before it, the "BM Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL + Modernization Tools EGL Edition" offering is structured as a bundle of these two products:

  • "IBM Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL Tools"
  • "IBM Rational Business Developer"

Because it is structured as a bundle, the "Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL + Modernization Tools EGL Edition" offering is available only with the Authorized User licensing metric. The other editions of Rational Developer for i are offered with the following license metrics:

  • Authorized User
  • Floating User Single Install
  • Token
