Problem
Attempts to preview a report using Birt/Eclipse designer 3.7.1 result in a blank parameters page.
Symptom
You are expecting to see a dialog that shows the various report parameters but you see an empty dialog box and the application just halts.
Cause
This version of Birt does not support IE11. The above issue will occur if you are using IE11 browser.
Diagnosing The Problem
If you are using a computer with IE11 as the default browser you will likely have this issue.
Resolving The Problem
IE11 is not supported by this version of Birt, nor is it supported by any current Maximo platform you must downgrade to a supported version such as IE9.
There are two workarounds which are posted on the eclipse forum (see related links for details). One involves updating the ini file, the other requires that Firefox also be installed on the computer. Details are provided in those threads.
A variation of the ini file change proposed in the Bugzilla entry 425786 is shown below
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=ie
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.IEVersion=default
