When Opening Mail, Contacts or Calendar, the error "Cannot create window (Insufficient Memory)" Displays.

Problem

When attempting to open the Mail, Contacts or Calendar, the error "Cannot create window (Insufficient memory)" is displayed instead of documents.


Symptom

Cannot create window (Insufficient memory) error displays when opening the Mail, Contacts or Calendar.


Cause

This problem only occurs in the Notes Standard client. The two causes of this error is 1) Video Graphics Card driver or 2) Corrupted cached Java (or CSI) views in the memento.xml.

Resolving the problem

Video Card Driver

In most cases, the cause of the problem is due to the Video Graphics card driver. In one specific case, the cause of the error was an upgrade of the NVIDIA Quadro K2000 driver. For this particular case, the problem was resolved by creating an exception in the nViewer for the Lotus Notes application.

In another reported case, the specific problem Nvidia driver was the 311.35-quadro-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql. The solution was to downgrade to an older version, in this case to 306.97. The Video Card configuration was Intel HD 3000 and Nvida Quadro 2000M with Optimus enabled.

Another workaround has been to exclude the Notes processes from the nDriver (NVIDIA driver) functions. To disable nView functions from Notes, you must go in the Application view and enter the 3 main processes for Lotus Notes:
notes.exe
notes2.exe
nlnotes.exe

In one customer's case, adding Sametime.exe process alleviated the issue.

After you select the application and click on Disable Button, in the "Disable nView Functions" dialog, disable the following option: "Enable nView Desktop Management for this Application and/or Class"

In another user's case, the NVIDIA driver was disabled.

On Windows 7/8, You will have to download "NVIDIA nView Desktop Management Software" to manage these settings: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nView-driver.html

After install, you will find NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager in Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization:


Corrupted Memento.xml

In other cases, the cause of the problem was due to corrupted memento.xml files. The error will be reported in the Trace log files stored in the data\workspace\logs directory. Below is an example:

    CLFNM0237E: The CSIDelgateUtil failed to open a runtime document from CSI
    com.ibm.csi.types.ServiceException: Cannot create window (Insufficient Memory)

In this case, deleting the \Data\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\com.ibm.rcp.csiviews folder resolved the issue. The problem was caused by an invalid (OR NULL) pointer in the memento.xml file.
