Requirements for FlashCopy Manager for VMware

Hardware:

• A VMware vSphere environment consisting of one or more vCenter servers and one or more ESX/ESXi hosts.
• One Linux server for the Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager installation. This server can either be a physical server or a virtual machine running within the vSphere environment.
  LAN connectivity to the vCenter server is required for this server.
  SAN connectivity to storage subsystems is not required for this server.

Hardware requirements vary and depend on the following items:

• Number of protected servers
• Number of protected volumes
• LAN connectivity

The following table describes the hardware requirements that are needed to install
FlashCopy Manager for VMware.

Software:

Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for VMware requires:

• that a supported operating system is running on the virtual or physical server where FlashCopy Manager for VMware is installed
• a VMware vCenter server
• one or more VMware ESX/ESXi hosts

Optionally, a VMware vSphere client of the same version as the vCenter server is required in order to use the Data Protection for VMware vCenter plug-in.

The following operating systems are supported for the virtual machine or physical server where FlashCopy Manager for VMware is installed:

• 64-bit SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11, and later 11.x levels
• 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.1, and later 5.x levels
• 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.1, and later 6.x levels


• The following VMware vSphere levels are supported for the vCenter server:

IBM System Storage N Series and NetApp hardware:

• IBM System Storage N Series or NetApp data storage systems
• Supported Data ONTAP versions:
• 7.3, or later 7.3.x levels
• 8.1, or later 8.1.x levels

Requirements for Off-loaded Backups to Tivoli Storage Manager

• IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments v7.1.0 and later 7.1.0.x interim fixes
