Troubleshooting
Problem
"ANS9999E ntrc.cpp(768): Received Win32 RC 87 (0x00000057) from fioScanDirEntry()" may be shown during file backup from the CIFS shared folder.
Symptom
During incremental or selective file backup from the network storage of NetApp OnTap via CIFS share, "ANS9999E ntrc.cpp(768): Received Win32 RC 87 (0x00000057) from fioScanDirEntry()" message may be displayed. However the backup will successfully end with "Total number of objects failed: 0."
When this error happens, Tivoli Storage Manager client cannot get the named stream info because of the Windows API BackupRead() failure with the Win32 RC 87. According to the historical design, the client does skip the named stream info for the object and does try to back up all other data. Therefore the "problem" file could be successfully restored when the original file contains the only main stream data.
Cause
Looks like that this issue stems from a change in Microsoft's BackupRead function on Windows 2008 when reading files and folders which are located on another computer that is not running Windows. It is thus far known to exist only when using a Windows 2008 client to backup files housed on the device of the prior version OnTap 7.2.7 via CIFS share. Windows 2008 can successfully backup files through CIFS shares when housed on other Windows OS's.
Environment
Tivoli Storage Manager Client on Windows 2008 and CIFS shared storage of NetApp OnTap.
Resolving The Problem
Update OnTap 7.2.7 or later version.
