Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to "Show Licenses" from IBM Rational License Key Administrator (LKAD) results in the error "No license features were found on server
Symptom
When you select a license server and click Show Licenses button from LKAD>Settings>Client/Server Configuration, the following error occurs.
"No license features were found on server <hostname>. FLEXlm Error -97, The desired vendor daemon is down."
Also, you can see the the following message recorded in License log file lmgrd.log:
Starting vendor daemons ...
License server manager (lmgrd) startup failed:
File not found, rational.exe
Cause
Your license file rational_server_perm.dat contains "VENDOR rational" line and it is located before "VENDOR ibmratl" line such as
SERVER <hostname> <hostid> <port #>
VENDOR rational
VENDOR ibmratl
Resolving The Problem
Apply the following steps to resolve the issue:
- Stop license server using License Tools LMTOOLS
- Edit the license file rational_server_perm.dat in a text editor
- Remove "VENDOR rational" line
- Save the file
- Start license server
Note: Starting from Rational License Server version 8.1.1, only one common vendor daemon ibmratl is used for Rational and Telelogic products.
If you do have rational daemon present on your license file but it comes AFTER ibmratl daemon, such as
SERVER <hostname> <hostid> <port #>
VENDOR ibmratl
VENDOR rational
This will not affect the license distribution. However, it will log some errors in the lmgrd.log file:
Starting vendor daemons ...
Started ibmratl (pid #)
License server manager (lmgrd) startup failed:
File not found, rational.exe
