Problem
This technote explains how to further investigate the output of the IBM Rational ClearCase cleartool rebase or deliver subcommands, when they fail because of an apparent version mismatch.
Symptom
The commands cleartool rebase or cleartool deliver fail with error messages such as:
cleartool: Error: The ClearCase version used to start the rebase operation in progress does not match the current version.
cleartool: Error: Unable to restore operation.
cleartool: Error: Unable to restore from pvar.
cleartool: Error: Unable to cancel rebase.
Once you encounter the error, you will be unable to cancel or complete the deliver or rebase operation.
Cause
This issue is only seen when a replicated project VOB (PVOB) is raised to feature level 6 or above, and the rebase or deliver operation was executed from a client machine running ClearCase 7.1.1.04, ClearCase 7.1.2.01, or an earlier ClearCase release.
Resolving The Problem
If you receive this error while doing a deliver, you may clear the deliver by running the following command as root or privileged User on the VOB server:
/usr/atria/etc/utils/ucmutil setpvar -pvar UCM_DELIVER -none stream:<fully-qualified-name-of-stream-from-which-you-are-delivering>
If you receive this error while executing a rebase, you may clear the rebase by running the following command as root or privileged User on the VOB server:
/usr/atria/etc/utils/ucmutil setpvar -pvar UCM_REBASE -none stream:<fully-qualified-name-of-stream-being-rebased>
To avoid future occurrences of the issue, upgrade your ClearCase client machines to at least 7.1.1.05, 7.1.2.02 or 8.0.
