IBM Support

Deletion of Project Area resources does not actually delete resources

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to use repotools -deleteProjectAreaResource in IBM Rational Team Concert results in no Project Area Resources actually deleted.

Symptom

When running repotools -deleteProjectAreaResource, the log file generated shows:

Deleting all resources for context area https://<servername>:9443/jazz/process/project-areas/<project name>

However in actuality, no resources for the specified project area are deleted.

Cause

The repotools -deleteProjectAreaResource command will only delete resources stored with the Jazz Foundation Server storage service.

Resolving The Problem

The repotools -deleteProjectAreaResource command enables the permanent deletion of the archived Jazz Foundation Server resources in context area, storage area, and consumer key, and not resources located in Rational Team Concert such as project areas or work items. Permanently deleting these Jazz Foundation Server archived resources can open up database space and improve performance, however it is destructive and should only be used under the advice of IBM Support.

To mitigate confusion, this command was changed to repotools -deleteJFSResources in Rational Team Concert 3.0.1 as specified in jazz.net work item 149617.
