Notes client hangs while forwarding certain messages to an SMTP address
You receive reports that a user's Notes client hangs when they attempt to forward certain messages to external SMTP addresses. You receive reports of a similar Notes client hang when users attempt to past content into a new memo.
The cause of this issue is the CD to MIME version carried out by the client while sending mail to an external SMTP address. Changing the Location document's setting, "Format when addressing mail to the internet" from "MIME" to "Notes Rich Text Format" will stop the client from hanging while sending mail. However, this workaround will cause the Router to perform the CD to MIME conversion during the mail routing process, and could cause a similar hang on the Domino server.
Diagnosing the problem
To diagnose this issue, run NSD manually while the client hang is occurring. The following Call Stack will be reported in the NSD log:
Resolving the problem
Note: A similar hang was also reported to occur on the Domino Server during the mail routing process, which causes Mail to stop routing and the NBES (Notes Blackberry Enterprise Services) task to hang. For details on that issue, see technote 1421967 -- "Mail stops routing and NBES task hangs after call to ConvertNotesBitmap & grEncodeGIFFile".
