Update strategy for IBM Lotus Quickr 8.5 for WebSphere Portal

Preventive Service Planning

Abstract

This document describes the strategy for applying maintenance updates for IBM Lotus Quickr 8.5 for WebSphere Portal.

Content

WebSphere Portal updates (Cumulative Fixes (CFs), Fix Packs and iFixes) or Lotus Web Content Management (WCM) Cumulative Fixes (CFs) can be applied to IBM Lotus Quickr 8.5 for WebSphere Portal. Because WebSphere Portal and Web Content Management have independent release cycles for updates, not every specific combination of Portal and WCM updates will be validated under a Lotus Quickr 8.5 for WebSphere Portal environment. Before you install or apply publicly available updates and fixes for WebSphere Portal or Lotus Web Content Management to a Lotus Quickr 8.5 for WebSphere Portal, check whether it is a Recommended Configuration (see section below).

Please consult with IBM Technical Support for cases where a WebSphere Portal update or Web Content Management fix that is not included in the Lotus Quickr Recommended Configuration seems to address a problem in your Quickr environment.

If a problem is reported on Lotus Quickr 8.5 for WebSphere Portal, the support team will attempt to recreate the problem with a certified WebSphere Portal updates (CFs, Fix Packs and iFixes) or Lotus Web Content Management CFs combination first. If the issue is found to be in WebSphere Portal or Lotus Web Content Management, then we will work with their respective support team as they work to provide a fix.

Release notes for Lotus Quickr 8.5 for WebSphere Portal Cumulative Fixes

  • Quickr for WebSphere Portal CF6 (and higher) adds compatibility with Web Content Management (WCM) CF46 and higher. Please use the latest recommended WCM CF level, as noted in this document.
  • The recommended level WCM CF now copies the ilwwcm-authoringportlet.jar file to the shared/app directory. The manual step is no longer required and has been removed from the installation instructions outlined on this document.
  • There is a compatibility issue with Portal 6.1.0.6 CF18 and CF19 which prevents Custom Library from saving its settings. IBM Quickr support does not recommend the use of Portal 6.1.0.6 CF18 and CF19 on a Quickr 8.5 server until the incompatibilities have been resolved.

Recommended configuration

When a Cumulative Fix is released for Lotus Quickr 8.5 for WebSphere Portal, this document will recommend a certified configuration set of WebSphere Portal updates (Cumulative Fixes (CFs), Fix Packs and iFixes) and Lotus Web Content Management Cumulative Fixes (CFs).

Please note that IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) fixes are platform-specific. There is a recommended group of fixes per platform. The platform-independent fixes are the same in each of the recommended groups.

The recommended groups are on IBM Fix Central. They include these updates:

NOTE: If a fix has been published that supersedes one listed on this document, Fix Central will list the superseding fix and included the superseded fix linked from this document under the "Show superseded fixes" section.

Steps to apply fixes

Prerequisites

  • Download all fixes listed above.
  • Download the latest IBM Update Installer V7 for WebSphere Software (note that V7 can be used to update WebSphere Application Server V6.1 which is used by Quickr 8.5):
    AIX
    Linux
    Windows

  • Download the latest Portal Update Installer (PUI) V6.1 from IBM Fix Central
    AIX
    Linux
    Windows

  • Plan your system outage maintenance window. It is recommended to perform the installation instructions on a test environment to determine the total duration to complete the upgrade.

  • Review the topic "Installing fix packs" in the product documentation, which includes how to stop and start the server.

Instructions

Apply WAS 6.1 Fix Pack 43 and Java SDK for Fix Pack 43
1. Stop the WebSphere_Portal and server1 servers if they are running.

2. Using WAS Update Installer GUI mode, apply both fixes together.

Apply Portal 6.1.0.6 (6.1.5.3) Fix Pack
1. Stop the WebSphere_Portal and server1 servers if they are running.

2. Review the instructions to apply the Portal 6.1.0.6 Fix Pack for stand-alone or cluster configurations. Please note that Portal Feature Pack version 6.1.5.0 was already applied as part of the Lotus Quickr 8.5 for WebSphere Portal installation. There is no need to run the steps for the feature pack outlined in the Portal documentation. Installing the Portal 6.1.0.6 Fix Pack will update the feature pack to version 6.1.5.3.

Portal Fix Pack documentation is available here: Resources available: WebSphere Portal version 6.1.0, fix pack 6 (6.1.0.6) and 6.1.5, fix pack 3 (6.1.5.3).

Apply Portal 6.1.0.6 CF21 (PM61253)
1. Stop the WebSphere_Portal and server1 servers if they are running.

2. Using Portal Update Installer (PUI), install PM61253.

3. Stop the WebSphere_Portal and server1 servers if they are running.

4. Run the command: wp_profile_root/bin/osgiCfgInit.[bat|sh]

Apply Portal 6.1.0.6 PM25140
1. PM25140 resolves an issue with clustering when using Portal 6.1.0.6, caused by missing product files. The PM25140 Portal iFix will add the missing files to Portal 6.1.0.6, which allows clustering tasks to be performed successfully. Customers need to only apply the fix to the Quickr server and do not upgrade WebSphere Application Server beyond the level stated on this document.

Apply WCM 6.1.5.x CF57 (PM64098)
1. Stop the WebSphere_Portal and server1 servers if they are running.

2. Set the PortalAdminPwd and WasPassword parameters in the wp_profile\ConfigEngine\properties\wkplc.properties file. (For more information, see Configuration properties reference.)

3. Using Portal Update Installer (PUI), install PM64098.

4. Start the WebSphere_Portal server.

5. Run the post-configure task: configEngine.[bat|sh] update-wcm

6. Run the post-configure task: configEngine.[bat|sh] update-wcm-fp615

7. Stop the WebSphere_Portal server.

Apply Lotus Quickr CF8 (LO69864)
1. Stop the WebSphere_Portal and server1 servers if they are running.

2. Set the PortalAdminPwd and WasPassword parameters in the wp_profile\ConfigEngine\properties\wkplc.properties file. (For more information, see Configuration properties reference.)

3. NOTE: If you have enabled SSL on Quickr and have updated transport-guarantee from NONE to CONFIDENTIAL in the web.xml files of Quickr Administration Applications, add the property "sslSetup" in the <profile>/ConfigEngine/properties/wkplc.properties, leaving the value blank. Example:

    sslSetup=

4. Using Portal Update Installer (PUI), install LO69864.

Update sorting filters
1. Stop the WebSphere_Portal and server1 servers if they are running.

2. Update the language filter setting by replacing "ExtendedLocaleFilter" with "SortingLocaleFilter" in the following 2 files (More information about this step available in Selecting and changing the language):

wp_profile\config\cells\<CELL_NAME>\applications\wcm.ear\deployments\wcm\ilwwcm.war\WEB-INF\web.xml

wp_profile\config\cells\<CELL_NAME>\applications\wps.ear\deployments\wps\wps.war\WEB-INF\web.xml

Finally, start the servers to complete the updates.
