How to add more storage to Content Manager OnDemand cache

Troubleshooting

Problem

My Content Manager OnDemand server cache file systems are almost full. What are the steps to add more storage to Content Manager OnDemand cache?

Cause

Content Manager OnDemand distributes and balances cache by archiving document data to the cache file system with the greatest number of free bytes.

An exception to this rule is the first cache file system defined in the ARS.CACHE configuration file. The first cache file system contains special directories used by Content Manager OnDemand to locate objects from all cache file systems. When the first cache file system reaches 95% utilization, Content Manager OnDemand will attempt to reserve the remaining space for maintaining the special directories and, if possible, will archive to the next most free cache file system instead.

Resolving The Problem

To add more cache file system space, the following two options exist:

  1. Extend the size of the current cache file systems using operating system utilities. No configuration change needs to be performed in Content Manager OnDemand.
  2. Add one or more new cache file systems.
    1. Create a new file system and name accordingly.
    2. Set the permissions of this new file system according to the Content Manager OnDemand Installation Guide.
    3. Add the new cache file system to the bottom of your ARS.CACHE configuration file.
    4. Restart your Content Manager OnDemand server to use the new configuration.

When adding a new cache file system, it is important to add to the bottom of the ARS.CACHE file. Since the first cache file system in the ARS.CACHE file contains special directories, it must always remain the first entry in the file.

Also, it is recommended to create cache file systems of equal size. This allows data to be evenly balanced across cache file systems.
