Errors in database use : Insufficient memory: Could not save to file

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem

During replication of a Lotus Notes database, you see insufficient memory errors. Further investigation showed this to be being caused by an attachment in a database. Opening the document and then trying to view the attachment displayed the error in a popup message box and the attachment could not be used at all:

Errors in database use : Insufficient memory: Could not save to file
Compact, Updall and Fixup all failed to run on the database. Replication did not work either.

Resolving the problem

On versions of Domino 7.0.3 and above, run the following on the database to resolve the issue:

    lo compact -c -i

Running the compact on a previous version resulted in "Invalid Document" warnings when trying to access the document in the database after the compact.
