CICS Transaction Gateway Topologies

Troubleshooting

Problem

CICS Transaction Gateway (CICS TG) can be configured in a variety of topologies which have implications for problem determination.

Resolving The Problem

Remote and local modes

Remote mode:
In remote mode, Java client applications connect to the Gateway daemon over the network, using either TCP/IP or SSL. The Gateway daemon can accept connections from multiple instances of the Client classes, from multiple client systems.

Local mode:
In local mode, the Java client applications communicate directly with the CICS connectivity components. Calls to the network layer and the requirement to run the Gateway daemon process, which are both required in remote mode, are not needed in local mode.

Note: Not all communication protocols are available with all versions and configurations of CICS TG.
