Problem(Abstract)

This technote identifies a solution to, Internal Error 2835...The InstallScript engine is missing from this machine, which may occur when installing an iFix or Fix Pack to update an IBM Rational release area.

Symptom

When applying an iFix or Fix Pack to a Rational product release area, it fails with:

Internal Error 2835. ErrorIcon, SetupError
1: The InstallScript engine is missing from this machine.  If available, please run ISScript.msi, or
contact your support personnel for further assistance.
MSI (c) (88!60) [08:25:51:270]: Product: IBM Rational <product name>

This error may also occur as follows, without the Internal error 2835:

IBM Rational <Product name> Installer Information

1: The InstallScript engine is missing from this machine. If available, please run ISScript.msi, or contact your support personnel for further assistance.

Note: The above errors can occur during the installation of a Rational product or an iFix or Fix Pack for any Rational product.


Cause

The incorrect version of the InstallScript engine is currently installed on the system.

This was recorded as defect, RATLC00992163.


Resolving the problem

The decision was made by Product Management to exclude the resolution of this defect from future upgrades and releases.

WORKAROUND:

Browse to the Rational release area and install version 10.5 of InstallScript, isscript1050.msi:

  1. Go to DISK1\SETUP directory located in your release area

  2. Launch and install the isscript1050.msi file

Once the installation of the isscript1050.msi is complete, you will be able to patch the release area in the normal fashion.

Note: If the workaround does not work as expected, you can attempt the following steps:
    1. Right-click ISScript1050.msi and choose Uninstall

    2. Double-click ISScript1050.msi to reinstall

    3. Try to install the patch again
