Notes.ini is missing from the Program directory after reinstalling Notes 6.5

You have reinstalled a Lotus Notes 6.5.x client. After doing so, however, the client will not launch. The following errors appear when you attempt to launch the client:

    "File does not exist: 'Pernames.ntf'"

    "File does not exist: 'Bookmark.ntf'"


This issue can occur if the notes.ini is missing from the Program directory of the newly installed Notes client.

To work around the issue, search for a copy of the notes.ini on the hard drive. Typically you can locate one in the \WinNT directory. Copy that file to the current Notes Program directory (e.g., \Program files\Lotus\Notes).

Supporting Information:

Prior to reinstalling the Notes 6.5.x client, you should make a backup of the existing notes.ini files, and if the existing notes.ini is located in the \WinNT directory, you should delete that copy before attempting a reinstallation. If you do not delete the old notes.ini first, Notes will look in the wrong place for its files.
