IBM Support

UCM Project returns cleartool: Error: Not a vob object

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to describe or list an IBM Rational ClearCase UCM project or stream object returns the error "cleartool: Error: Not a vob object".

Symptom

Attempts to run the command cleartool describe on a UCM project results in the following error:

Example:

% cleartool describe -long project:my_ucm_project@<PVOB>
project "my_ucm_project"
created 19-Mar-02.00:36:42 by ClearCase Administrator (vobadm@myhost)
owner: vobadm
group: usr
folder: RootFolder@/vobs/proj_pvob
integration stream: vobadm_integration@/vobs/proj_pvob
modifiable components:
component_vob1@/vobs/proj_pvob
component_vob2@/vobs/proj_pvob
component_vob3@/vobs/proj_pvob
default rebase promotion level: INITIAL

cleartool: Error: Not a vob object: "098a0c96.e1g411d6.abcf.00:01:83:02:af:6e".

Additional commands known to result in the same "Not a vob object" error:

  • cleartool lsstream -long <integration stream name>@<PVOB>
  • cleartool lsproject -long <project name>@<PVOB>
  • cleartool dump oid:<OID of the component>@<PVOB>

  • Attempts to join a project results in the following error:

Error determining recommended baseline for the project

Cause

The cause of these error relate to the recommended baseline of the project being removed.

Resolving The Problem

Recommend the necessary baseline from Project Explorer or run cleartool chstream -nrecommended within the integration stream of the project to clear which baselines are being recommended.

Note: This will require the project baselines to be rebased after performing this operation.

Example:

  • Reset the recommended baseline list by specifying all the baselines, except the one you are going to remove:

    cleartool chstream -recommended BL1@\ProjectVOB,BL2@\ProjectVOB stream:stream-name@\ProjectVOB

    OR
  • Clear all the recommended baselines that are currently set for the stream:
  • cleartool chstream -nc -nrecommended stream:stream-name@\ProjectVOB

Review the ClearCase Command Reference Guide on the topic of chstream (cleartool man chstream) for more information.
