Pointing UNIX clients to a License Server
A Windows client can point to a Floating license server in one of three ways:
I. Using the License Key Administrator Wizard:
- Launch the License Key Administrator by selecting Start > Programs > IBM Rational > License Key Administrator
- If the License Key Wizard screen is not displayed automatically, it can be launched by going to the License Keys > License Key Wizard
- Select the radio button Point to a Rational License Server to get my licenses and click Next
- In the Server Name(s) and Port window, enter the name of the license server in the Server Name box. If using a firewall you may also need to enter a Port ID. Contact your License Server administrator for this information. Click Finish.
* The License Key Administrator allows a client to point to more than one license server. This can be done by clicking on the Advanced Server Options button. For instructions, see step 4 in the next section for Client/Server Configuration.
II. Using the Client/Server Configuration:
- Launch the License Key Administrator by selecting Start > Programs > IBM Rational > License Key Administrator
- Select Settings > Client/Server Configuration
- Check the box labelled Use License Server
- Click Add Server and another entry will be added to the Search Order box called New-Server. Note: You will need to change that name.
- To change the name of the server, go to the Settings box and enter the license server name in the Values column next to Server Name. If using a firewall you might also need to enter a Port ID. Contact your License Server administrator for this information.
III. Using the Command Line
- Using the Command Line to point to a Single Server:
run licadmin.exe -s27000@servername
- Using the Command Line to point to a Redundant Server:
run licadmin.exe -servername1,27000@servername2,27000@servername3
UNIX clients
The following environment variable can be set to point the UNIX client to look for floating licenses on a Microsoft Windows or UNIX License Server (or Servers) by setting the environment variable below.
For a single server:
set LM_LICENSE_FILE=27000@servername
For redundant servers:
set LM_LICENSE_FILE=27000@server1:27000@server2:27000@server3
Note: IBM Rational ClearCase did not support FLEXlm until ClearCase version 7.0. IBM Rational ClearCase LT, however, supported FLEXlm before full ClearCase.
