Sametime meetings fail to go active if the server uses hyperthreaded technology

Problem

You are unable to get Lotus® Sametime® working with hyperthreading technology. Hyperthreading technology maximizes processor resources and enables a single processor to run two separate threads of software simultaneously.

Sametime meetings will fail to go active after several days if hyperthreading is enabled on the server.

Symptom

06/10/2008 09:36:29 AM  Sametime: Service [H.323 MCU] started successfully.
06/10/2008 09:36:29 AM  Sametime: Starting service [Authentication Server].
06/10/2008 09:36:30 AM  Sametime: Process 5520 created.
06/10/2008 09:36:30 AM  Sametime: Service [Authentication Server] started successfully.
06/10/2008 09:36:39 AM  Sametime Server: Running
06/10/2008 09:36:42 AM  HTTP Server: Started
06/10/2008 09:39:30 AM  Sametime: Service start wait time exceeded.
06/10/2008 09:39:30 AM  Sametime: Service [] failed to start.
06/10/2008 09:39:30 AM  Sametime: One or more services failed to start.
06/10/2008 09:39:30 AM  Sametime: Server startup failed.  Shutting down...
06/10/2008 09:39:30 AM  Sametime: Stopping services...:


Resolving the problem

Disable hyperthreading in the system BIOS.
