Error description

  • In IBM Rational Software Architect (RSA), if you use the profile
tooling and then open ? close diagrams or palettes, you will get
the 'SWTError: No more handles...' error and RSA will either
    become unresponsive ('hang') or terminate.

The following steps reproduce the problem:

    1. Create a profile tooling project with a large number of
palettes drawers and palette items within the drawers

    2. Create a UML project and model

    3. Apply the profile to the model, so that you can now see the
palettes and palette items created in Step 1

    4. Open the default diagram or the palettes and close them ?20
    times in succession

    Expected Result: Nothing unusual happens.

Actual Result: RSA hangs and the following error is written to
    the .log file:

During creation of palettes, SWT images which represent
icons were leaking. This was leading to a crash of the
product after its usage for some duration.

Problem conclusion

  • The faulty code, which causes leakage of images was
generated by RSA. The generation has been corrected now so
    there is no more leakage.

Temporary fix
