Error description

  • When trying to clean up after removal of a UCM view, the
    following maybe encountered

$ cleartool rmview -f -all -uuid
    cc3fa0e3.a96f11e2.8247.00:50:56:b0:11:41
    Removed references to view
    'cc3fa0e3.a96f11e2.8247.00:50:56:b0:11:41' from VOB
    '/vobs/CC_PVOB'.
    Removed references to view
    'cc3fa0e3.a96f11e2.8247.00:50:56:b0:11:41' from VOB
    '/vobs/CC_DOC'.
    ...
cleartool: Error: Error from VOB database: '/vobs/RR_PVOB'.
cleartool: Error: A problem occurred while deleting a hyperlink
    (vob_oid=091f62835a0e11e28352005056b01193, hlinkh=1530606479) on
an object whose dbid is 40375.
cleartool: Error: Could not remove a checked out version; dbid =
    40375.
cleartool: Error: Trouble removing references to view
    'CMSERVER:/var/adm/rational/clearcase/ccweb/abc123/abc123_RR_1.0
    _DEV/.view.stg'
    from vob '/vobs/RR_APP'.

    * The view being removed was for a UCM stream in '/vobs/RR_PVOB'
    * The view had checkout from component VOB '/vobs/RR_APP'
    * '/vobs/RR_PVOB' and '/vobs/RR_APP' reside on the same UNIX
    (Linux) VOB server
    * '/vobs/RR_PVOB' and '/vobs/RR_APP' have different VOB owners
    * the db_server_log shows messages
     Error: CRRDM0008E *** db_VISTA database error -905 - error
    opening file
     Error: DBMS error in '/vobs/atria/lib/db/...
     Error: DBMS error in /opt/ClearCaseStorage/VOBs/RR_PVOB.vbs/db.
Error: db_VISTA error -905 (errno == 'Permission denied')

Some errors seen as the second line
Error: DBMS error in '/vobs/atria/lib/db/db__obj.c' line 2065
Error: DBMS error in '/vobs/atria/lib/db/db__str.c' line 789
Error: DBMS error in '/vobs/atria/lib/db/db__hlink.c' line 1697

    Steps to reproduce:
Have a VOB server with several different VOB owners
Destroy a UCM view, leaving checkouts to a component VOB
Attempt to cleanup the checkouts with 'rmview -uuid'
Exact steps not known - further conditions maybe necessary

    Workaround:
Use 'cleartool protectvob -chown XXX ..../RR_APP.vbs'
to make the component VOB have the same owner as the project
    VOB

In IBM Rational ClearCase, the cleartool rmview -uuid
command could fail to remove view records from a VOB when
multiple VOBs on the same server host are owned by different
    accounts.

Problem conclusion

  • The fix for this problem has been delivered in IBM Rational
    ClearCase versions 7.1.2.12, 8.0.0.08 and 8.0.1.01.
