Error description

  • Exporting DOORS Tables with uneven number of cells to Word,
    either results in 'OLE method failed' error OR incorrect output

    Scenario 1 ? Error when exporting
    ==================================
    Consider a Module in DOORS which has:
    1.? Tables with uneven number of cells in them separated by an
    Empty Object
    Table # 1 -- is just a 1X1 Table i.e. one row one column
    ---Empty Object (i.e. no Object Heading or Text)---
    Table # 2 -- one cell in the first row and two cells in the
    second row.

    2.? Have a View created which has ONLY the Main column in it and
    all other columns are removed.

    Try exporting this View to Microsoft Word (File ? Export ?
    Microsoft Office ? Word) choose all default options. We would
    observe that the export will fail with the 'OLE method failed:
    OLE problem: The requested member of the collection does not
    exist.' as export module to Word'

    Scenario 2 ? Incorrect output generated by exporting to Word.
    =============================================================
    Consider a Module in DOORS which has:
    1.? Tables with uneven number of cells in them separated by an
    Empty Object
    For example:
    Table # 1 -- has one cell in the first row and two cells in its
    second row
    ---Empty Object (i.e. no Object Heading or Text)---
    Table # 2 -- has two cells in first row and only one cell in
    second row

    2.? Have a View created which has ONLY the Main column in it and
    all other columns are removed.

    Try exporting this View to Microsoft Word (File ? Export ?
    Microsoft Office ? Word) choose all default options. We would
    observe that the resulting Word document generated shows the
    Tables incorrectly.

    WORKAROUND FOUND:
    ===============
    Here are the two workarounds found which will ensure that above
    mentioned behavior is not observed:
    1.? Have any other Column say, Object Identifier or Absolute
    Number etc added to the View.

    2.? If adding any other Column is not feasible, add some Text
    either in Object Heading or Object Text of the empty Object that
    exists between the two uneven celled Tables.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Consecutive table objects separated only by a blank object do
    not export correctly.

Problem conclusion

  • Word is combining the table objects and then showing errors when
     the export attempt to remove cells that are not present.
    Changed the e

Temporary fix

  • 1. Have any other Column say, Object Identifier or Absolute
    Number etc added to the View.

    2. If adding any other Column is not feasible, add some Text
    either in Object Heading or Object Text of the empty Object that
    exists between the two uneven celled Tables.
