    ***************************************************************
    Rational Developer for System z - Host Terminal Emulator (HCE)
    left and right Ctrl keys are enabled only in current session

    APAR Error Description
    ***************************************************************
    Rational Developer for System z - RDz - v8.5.0

    Changes to control keys for the host connection emulator may not
    be saved correctly. Therefore, the changes will not be in
    effect for
    subsequent HCE sessions.

    In the failing case the host.connect.pref file may only
    some values such as:
    #
    #Fri Sep 07 12:39:53 CEST 2012
    com.ibm.etools.host.connect.editors.HostConnectEditor.leftCtrlAc
    tion=[reset]
    #
    #Fri Sep 07 12:39:53 CEST 2012
    com.ibm.etools.host.connect.editors.HostConnectEditor.mapCtrlKey
    s=
    --------------------------------------------------------------
    In a good case this file would contain something like this:
    #
    #Tue Sep 18 14:59:46 EDT 2012
    com.ibm.etools.host.connect.editors.HostConnectEditor.leftCtrlAc
    tion=[pf1]
    #
    #Tue Sep 18 14:59:46 EDT 2012
    com.ibm.etools.host.connect.editors.HostConnectEditor.mapCtrlKey
    s=true
    #
    #Tue Sep 18 14:59:46 EDT 2012
    com.ibm.etools.host.connect.editors.HostConnectEditor.rightCtrlA
    ction=[pf3]

    ***************************************************************
    Re-creation steps

    Go to:
    Windows-?Preferences-?General-?Keys-?Host Connection ControlKeys
    Then check the checkbox
    'Enable Control Key mapping for Host Connection Emulator'.
    Open emulator, and verify, it works.
    Close emulator, close RDz. Restart RDz, open emulator and verify
    that it no longer works.

    Go to:
    Windows-?Preferences-?General-?Keys-?Host Connection
    ControlKeys.

    Note any changes that are no longer there.

    ***************************************************************
    Local fix:
    Do not close the emulator before closing RDz. If it stays open
    and RDz is restarted, the keys still work.

    Check the ibm.com.etools.host.connect.pref file to see if
    changes
    have been stored. This file is found in the directory:
    ?workspace?\RemoteConfigurationFiles\global\com.ibm.ftt.configur
    ations.EclipsePreferences\Client

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED: Host Connect Emulator users who map the keyboard
    control keys

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If the control keys were mapped to the
    default values of "[reset]" and "[enter]", then those values
    are not persisted to the preference file so when a workspace is
    closed and reopened those values are not available in the
    preference store to be used when the control key is pressed.
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • APAR Problem Conclusion Field:
    ****************************************************************
    Problem Resolution: Default values are specified every time a
    control key is pressed in the Host Connect Emulator environment
    to be used if no value is available in the preference store.
