Error description

  • Headline: CTE report errors and stop loading dynamic view list

    APAR Description:
    With IBM Rational ClearCase 8.x, using CTE and selecting the
    dynamic view (My Views
    or under it),
    it report an error message:
       ClearCase: Error: View tag '?tag?': ClearCase object not
    found
    Then no view are showed, including the working one.
    This happen if:
    - the view was unregistered but the tag was not removed
    - the view server process is still running but the view was
    removed
    - the view is still visible under the mvfs drive on Windows
    - The view was started and then removed (outside CTE)
    
    Step to reproduce (Windows only):
    1. Create a view on Windows
    2. Start CTE and browse to the view
    3. Close CTE
    4. Unregister the view
    5. Start CTE
    6. Open 'My View', error is returned, no other views are
    visible.
    
    Step to reproduce (Windows-Unix):
    1. Create a view on Unix and import the tag on Windows
    2. Start CTE on Windows and browse to the view
    3. Close CTE
    4. Remove the view on Unix
    5. Start CTE on Windows
    6. Open 'My View', error is returned, no other views are
    visible.
    
    
    WORKAROUND:
    - Run rgy_check -view -region ?region? to ensure there are no
    orphan tag
    - Kill the removed view server process
    - On Windows, if the view was local, reboot the machine
    - Stop the view in CTE before removing the view

    single dynamic view, when only one of them is problematic.
    

Problem conclusion

  • All 'good' views will be displayed even if a bad view turns
    up in the list
