Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server                                      *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: VMM is not escaping back slash *
    * characters for all attribute values. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Virtual Member Manager (VMM) only escaped backslash characters
    for attributes of data type String. Now consider an attribute
    "manager" whose data type is Identifier, and which has a value
    "uid=User\1,DC=ibm,DC=com". In order to serach this attribute
    VMM must escape the back slash character as
    "uid=User\\1,DC=ibm,DC=com".
    Since the manager attribute is of Identifier type, the
    backslash character was not escaped by VMM and a search for
    this attribute in LDAP failed.

Problem conclusion

  • The fix involved modifying the code such that VMM now escapes
    backslash charaters for all data types.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 6.1.0.41, 7.0.0.21, and 8.0.0.2. Please refer to the
