PI90044: RDZ 126.96.36.199, IN A COBOL SOURCE, REFERENCING SYMBOLICS DECLARED IN THE SPECIAL-NAMES PARAGRAPH RESULTS IN SYNTAX ERROR
Fixes are available
Closed as program error.
In Rational Developer for z Systems (RDz) v188.8.131.52, the SPECIAL-NAMES paragraph that contains references to SYMBOLIC variables are not accepted by the real-time syntax checking and therefore, a syntax warning is issued. Here is an example of SYMBOLIC reference: SPECIAL-NAME. SYMBOLIC BACKSPACE 23 .... WORKING-STORAGE SECTION. 01 VAR-X PIC X(18) VALUE BACKSPACE. The same issue exists in RDz 184.108.40.206.
SYMBOLIC CHARACTERS were parsed for definitions, but when used in the program they were still identified as user created variables instead of integer literals.
SYMBOLIC CHARACTERS are now recognized as integer literals. The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with IBM Rational Developer for z Systems V220.127.116.11 Fix Pack which is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=2294&uid=swg27006335
