Error description

  • A NullPointerException is reported when an IMS Service provider
    service is invoked if no authorization has been requested by
    setting requireAuth="false" the z/OS Connect EE server.xml e.g:

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A NullPointerException is reported      *
    *                      when requireAuth="false" is set.        *

    When the requireAuth="false" attribute was set in the z/OS
    Connect EE server.xml, the IMS service provider did not
    correctly handle the values and the following was reported in
    the z/OS Connect EE server log:
    FFDC1015I: An FFDC Incident has been created:
     "com.ibm.zosconnect.spi.ServiceException:
      java.lang.NullPointerException
      com.ibm.zosconnect.internal.web.ServiceProxyServlet$2 nnn" at
      ffdc_<date>_<time>.log
    BAQR0404W: Service <service_name> encountered an error while
      processing a request under URL http://<uri>
    
    The ffdc log reported:
    Stack Dump = com.ibm.zosconnect.spi.ServiceException:
      java.lang.NullPointerException
    

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

  • z/OS Connect EE has been corrected to prevent the reported
    NullPointerException when using the IMS service provider with
    requireAuth="false" set in the z/OS Connect EE server.xml.
    
    The fix for this APAR will be shipped in the PTF for APAR
    PI85054.
