• IBM Rationa Developer for z - RDz v9.5.1
  Java Null Pointer Exception (NPE) occurs when in edit of
  program in local project and select to Open Called file
  
  Using the COBOL Sample 1 local project (startapp, printapp):
  Asociate a property group
  The edit associated property group >
   Editor Configurations > Local Files > Local Libraries
   and point to a local drive that contains printapp.cbl
  open startapp.cbl in the COBOL editor
  highlight PrintApp
  right mouse click
  select Open File "PrintApp"
  
  Nothing happens, but in the .log file you will find this
  Java.Null.Pointer.Exception:

Problem summary

• NPE occurs in the COBOL editor for a file in a local project
  when highlighting the member of a CALL statement and attempting
  to open it via right-mouse-click->Open File.
  

Problem conclusion

• When the file being edited is part of a local project, a check
  is made to determine whether the resource is part of a z/OS
  project - if so, remote information is required.  In this case,
  the code incorrectly determined the resource to be part of a
  z/OS project, which resulted in the NPE.
  
  The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
  IBM Rational Developer for z Systems V9.5.1.5 Fix Pack which
  is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
