Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CICS trace does not indicate whether *
    * a general CP or a zIIP processor is *
    *                      being used.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    When a CICS Java task runs, it is possible to see how much CPU
    time is spent on a general CP or on a zIIP. It is also
    possible to identify how much zIIP-eligible work actually ran
    on a zIIP. It is not currently possible to identify which
    sections of CICS code ran on the zIIP and which were on a
    general CP. This makes it difficult to locate and correct any
    code that was managing the zIIP state inefficiently.

Problem conclusion

  • The CICS trace has been enhanced to capture the processor type
    on each trace entry. The trace formatter has been enhanced to
    display the type as part of the TCB information in the FULL
    trace as follows;

        TCB-C/T8001/00888800  or  TCB-Z/T8001/00888800

    The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 5 Release 1 Data
    Areas manual (GC34-2849-00) will be updated as follows;

    TREN - Trace Entry, table 625 will have the row for offset 17
    replaced with

    (17) UNSIGNED 1 TREN_CPU_TYPE CPU (CP, zAAP, zIIP)

    The same change will be made for the CICS Transaction Server
    5.2 Data Areas manual (GC34-7271-00) table 633 and CICS
    Transaction Server 5.3 Data Areas manual (GC34-7406-00) table
    633.
