Error description

  • Rational Developer for System z - RDz -
    The Real Time Syntax Checker (RTSC) for the COBOL editor does
    not flag any statements created by a preprocessor even though
    the statements are wrong.
    
    For instance, if a preprocessor macro for +ERR generates the
    following line:
    
    00016005 ABST-PGN-BEZ PIC X(44) VALUE SPACE.
    
    A zero is inserted in the column indicater column and should
    generate a syntax error, but instead no error is presented
    unless you hover over the inserted code then you will see
    an error.
    
    The .log file found in the user's <workspace>\.metadata
    folder will contain a Java NPE with the following stack
    trace:

Problem summary

  • Statement generated by a pre-processor do not get flagged by the
     real-time syntax check in the editor.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Statements that are generated by some pre-processors may not
    have datasets associated with them when resolving the
    preprocessor macros.  Therefore, when the pre-processor
    generated code is being processed, no need to check for datasets
     in some cases.
    
    The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
    IBM Rational Developer for z Systems V9.5.1.2 Fix Pack which
    is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
