APAR status

Error description

• In Rational Developer for System z - RDz - v9.1.1.3, datasets
  and/or
  PDS members opened R/O with Browse or View mode are locked in
  R/W mode
  after a session timeout or cancellation followed by reconnect.
  
  Steps to reproduce:
  
  - Go to menu Window > Preferences > Remote Systems > DataStore
  and check "Automatically Reconnect"
  - Connect to z/OS
  - From a z/OS MVS Subproject, Browse or View a member or dataset
  in LPEX or COBOL Editor
  - Wait for the session to timeout or cancel the session with the
  operator command
  "/F RSED,APPL=C CANCEL USER=MYUSER" on the host
  - Reconnect to the host when the reconnect dialog appears
  => Observe that the member or dataset is now locked on the host.
  for example, an edit in ISPF will fail with error "member is
  use"
  

Local fix

• dataset or PDS members needs to be closed and reopened in Browse
  or View mode to release the lock.
  

Problem summary

• In Rational Developer for System z - RDz - v9.1.1.3, datasets
  and/or PDS members opened R/O with
  Browse or View mode are locked in R/W mode mode after a session
  timeout or cancellation followed by reconnect.
  

Problem conclusion

• After RDz reconnects, it tries to reestablish locks for the open
   members.  The problem is that when reestablishing locks, no
  distinction is made between files that had been opened in browse
   or view mode versus the regular edit mode and as such locks get
   acquired where they should not.
  
  The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
  IBM Rational Developer for System z V9.1.1.4 Fix Pack which
  is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
