Error description
Rational Developer for System z - RDz - v9.1.1.1 Toggle block mode is one of the feature inherited from base eclipse features. The code for toggle block mode in RDz was not modified to function/support under sequence number action. Therefore, while typing out letters in the selected block, the cursor tends to jump to the first line after typing out the first letter. Recreation Steps: - turn on Managed Sequence numbers preference for the COBOL Editor - do a File > Example > Gloabl Automart COBOL - open a COBOL file in the COBOL editor - scroll down to see the DATA DIVISION - turn on Toggle Block Selection Mode - select DIVISION - type 'abc', letter 'a' is at the right location but 'b' and 'c' are located on the first line of the program
Local fix
Disable Manage Sequence Numbers from Windows > Preferences > COBOL > Editor > Sequence Numbers > [Disable the sequence numbers].
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: RDz COBOL editor users that have the Manage Sequence Numbers preference set on. **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When editing COBOL source using the COBOL editor the cursor will jump to the first line of the file after typing in a selected area. The area must be selected using the Block Selection Mode and the Manage Sequence Number preference must be set on. The problem can be avoided by setting the Manage Sequence Number preference off before typing in an area selected using Block Selection Mode. Once typing in the area has been completed, the Manage Sequence Number preference can be set on again. ****************************************************************
Problem conclusion
The COBOL editor will be updated in a future fix pack to allow typing in an area selected using Block Selection Mode, while also having the Manage Sequence Number preference set on, without the cursor jumping to the first line of the source file. The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with IBM Rational Developer for System z V9.1.1.3 Fix Pack which is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=2294&uid=swg27006335
