Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server who are using the servlet listener. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: While processing the servlet * * listener, a NullPointerException * * might be thrown. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** If the servlet listener code implements the Java Persistence API (JPA), there is a potential that a NullPointerException is caught while processing the JPA code. This NullPointerException is caught during processing the listener when it is fired by removeAttribute method of HttpServletRequest object.
Problem conclusion
With this fix, the code was modified not to use the removeAttribute method to avoid the NullPointerException. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.7.
