PI39233: RDZ V9.X PL/I AND LPEX EDITOR SHOWS MULTIPLE ERRONEOUS PROBLEM MARKERS WHEN THERE IS A SPACE WITHIN PIC SPECIFICATIONS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Rational Developer for System z v9.x PL/I and LPEX Editor shows
  multiple erroneous problem markers when there is a space within
  PIC specifications
  
  E.g. DCL XX PIC '( n)n' cause the erroneous error markers. Note
  the  blank / space after the open bracket.
  
  The problem can also cause a loop, hang or long duration time
  before the problem markers appear. The number of problem markers
  can be large.
  

Local fix

• Many problem markers disappear when the spaces are removed from
  "quote, open bracket, space(s)"
  e.g. change
  DCL XX PIC '( 9)9'
  to
  DCL XX PIC '(9)9'
  

Problem summary

• The RDz PL/I Parser incorrectly identifies PIC specifications
  that contain space characters.
  

Problem conclusion

• Modified the RDz PL/I Parser to accept PIC specifications that
  contain white space.
  
  The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
  IBM Rational Developer for System z V9.1.1.2 Fix Pack which
  is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
