Error description

  • In Rational Developer for System z v9, opening a file
associated with the LPEX-Editor can cause eclipse to hang
(hourglass). The only option left is to terminate the eclipse
    environment.

The javacore dump (attachment 50548) shows the following stack
    for the main thread:

    at com/ibm/lpex/core/ViewListenerList.shown(Bytecode PC:40)
    .... etc

The gtk version is gtk2 2.24.25-1 as shown by the command:
rpm -qa --last | grep gtk output

The eclipse FAQ say that this Problem occurs only with 2.10 to
2.12. We observe this problem also in Eclipse version 4.2.2

    Eclipse Bugzilla Bug 130676
    https://bugs.ottawa.ibm.com/show_bug.cgi?id=130676

Local fix

  • In the RDz install directory add the flag
    "-Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.disablePrinting" to the end of
    the "\eclipse.ini" file.
    Then restart RDz

Problem summary

  • See error description.

Problem conclusion

  • In order to circumvent the errant behaviour in Eclipse, LPEX no
longer attempts to enumerate print devices before determining
wether or not to enable the print button. The print button is
    now always enabled.
