APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Rational Developer for System z (RDz) v9.1.1.1 and
  Rational Team Concert Integration (RTC) v4.0.6.2 transfers
  files as binary during drag and drop or copy/paste
  from a local zComponent project to a remote PDS.
  
  Steps to reproduce:
  
  1- use SCM zImport --binary command to import a COBOL program to
  RTC
  2- load it to a local workspace using RTC Find and Load Eclipse
  projects
  3- connect to z/OS from the Remote System Explorer
  4- drag and drop or copy/paste a program from the local
  zComponent project to a remote PDS
  5- open the remote program in LPEX or COBOL Editor: characters
  are not readable
  

Local fix

• Create the remote member manually and copy its content using
  copy/paste from the editors
  

Problem summary

• MVS files containing non-round-tripable characters can be
  imported into RTC as binary rather than being converted to
  UTF-8.  Those files are also loaded from RTC to the workstation
  using binary transfer.  When such files are drag/dropped or
  copy/pasted from the workstation to an MVS host, they need to be
  transferred as binary.  RDz was not checking with RTC to see
  whether or not the files were binary before transferring them
  which led to problems.
  

Problem conclusion

• RDz now checks RTC metadata before transferring RTC files from
  the workstation to the host, and if they are binary, uses binary
  transfer.
  
  The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
  IBM Rational Developer for System z V9.1.1.2 Fix Pack which
  is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
