Error description

  • In Rational Developer for System V9.1.1, users may experience
issues connecting to the server resulting in a 'password
revoked' or the system operator may observe high CPU usage of
RSE threadpool server. When this error or situation occurs, look
for the following symptoms or indicators:

    1. 'password revoked' in the RSE server log and the huge
ffslock.log logging 0C4 abend in the ffslock condition
    2. thousands of SMFtype80 records logged by RACF

01.In Rational Developer for System V9.1.1, users may
experience issues connecting to the server resulting in a
'password revoked' or the system operator may observe high
CPU usage of RSE threadpool server. When this error or
situation occurs, look for the following symptoms or
       indicators:
       1. 'password revoked' in the RSE server log and the huge
ffslock.log logging 0C4 abend in the ffslock condition
       2. thousands of SMFtype80 records logged by RACF
02.RseDamon process invoke ThreadPool process in the
initialization steps. The standard output and error of the
ThreadPool process is passed to RseDaemon process via unix
socket to add timestamp information to each line.
RseDaemon starts reading these output/errors after it
receives a kind of startup message from the ThreadPool
process via another communication path. When SSL is enabled,
very large number of standard error lines are generated,
they are not read by RseDaemon process, and the system
buffer for the unix socket gets full because no one reads
the socket data. When the system buffer becomes full, write
operation of the ThreadPoolProcess is blocked and the code
to send the startup message can not be executed.
03.When an alias PDS member is started to edit, RDz calls ENQ
and RESERVE operation with the resource name based on the
alias name. It causes to allow a user to edit the PDS member
that is already opened by ISPF editor. ISPF editor uses the
resource name based on the real name and RDz should work in
the same manner. RDz server is updated to calculate the
resource name for ENQ operation from a real PDS name not an
alias PDS name. RDz client is updated to correct the
resource name for RESERVE operation from a real PDS name not
       an alias PDS name.
04.Rational Developer for System z enhancement to show storage
usage through a new operator command
       F rsed,APPL=DEBUG {PROCESS | P},{STORAGE | STOR} ,PID=pid
       F rsed,APPL=DEBUG {DAEMON | D},{STORAGE | STOR}

Problem conclusion

  • 01.The RDz server's authentication code is updated to fix the
       errors.
02.RseDaemon process is udpated to start reading stanard output
and errors before reading the startup message of the
       ThreadPool process.
03.RDz server is updated to calculate the resource name for ENQ
operation from a real PDS name not an alias PDS name. RDz
client is updated to correct the resource name for RESERVE
operation from a real PDS name not an alias PDS name.
04.Rational Developer for System z enhancement to show storage
usage through a new operator command
       F rsed,APPL=DEBUG {PROCESS | P},{STORAGE | STOR} ,PID=pid
       F rsed,APPL=DEBUG {DAEMON | D},{STORAGE | STOR}
