Error description

  • How to reproduce:
    1. Create Enumeration Attribute type (say priority).
    2. Add a value containing dash for example, '-' or '1-High'.
    3. Create Attribute (say Priority) and choose the enumeration
    attribute type created in step 1.
    4. Select default value containing dash.
    5. Select File>Export>Spreadsheet.
    6. Select "Attribute from list".
    7. Deselect "Include attribute names/column titles in first
    row".
    8. Add "Object Identifier" and the attribute created in step 3.
    9. Click "Export".
    10. Open .csv file. Note: If you look at this file you can see
    that DOORS puts "" round the dash. However the first " is
    created in the first column (object identifier).

    This affects subsequent imports of this spreadsheet as DOORS
    doesn't recognize the enumerated attribute. On import user
    receives error "Data value beginning 'Priority ' does not match
    type ( priority ) of attribute ' Priority'. Ignore entry? "

    We have used enumerated attributes as an example in this APAR
    report but all attributes that have a -(dash) at the beginning
    are affected when exported to .csv.

    Workaround: Don't use a dash or manually fix .csv file.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * The "spreadsheet export" adds a space character before any *
    * value starting with some special characters (- or + or = or *
    * @) when the selected separator is the comma. *
    * This space character avoids that MS Excel interprets the *
    * value as a formula whenever the file is opened in MS Excel. *
    * But the "spreadsheet import" does not remove it. *
    * As a consequence, if such a value is to be set to an *
    * attribute of type Enumeration, the value is rejected with *
    * the error message "Data value beginning ' %s ' does not *
    * match type ( %s ) of attribute ' %s '.\n\nIgnore entry?".    *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • The "spreadsheet import" has been modified so that the space
    characters added by the "spreadsheet export" before special
    characters are removed.
