Error description

  • 1. Create several new test cases. Make sure some of them are
    legitimate
test cases that pass. Others can be dummies.
    2. Create 2 new test suites. Test suite #1 and #2.
    3. Place all test cases created at step 1 into test suite #1.
    4. Place test suite #1 into test suite #2
    5. Exit RIT and go to corresponding windows folder for the
    project's
    Logical folder
    6. Browse to the folder were the test cases were created in and
    delete
    the dummies.
    7. Relaunch RIT and open test suite #1 in Test Factory
    8. Verify deleted test cases have a red border around them and
    close
    the suite
    9. From here:
A-1) Execute test suite #1 via right click -> "Run"
A-2) Execute test suite #2 via right click -> "Run"
      B) Execute test suite #1 or #2 via right click -> "Run..."

A-1) When using the "Run" option on the test suite, the suite
    will
complete at less than 100% but with no visual warning.

A-2) If the suite is enclosed in another test suite (test suite
    #2),
and "Run" is used to execute #2, #2 will complete at 100%.

    B) When using the "Run..." option, the test cases whose links
    are
broken don't show up in the "Run selected tests in..." dialog
    window.

In either case, the user is not notified clearly (enough) that
    not all
test cases in the suite were executed successfully.

When I select Run option, I select the "complete suite to run".
    The
test cases whose links are broken don't show up in the "Run
    selected
    tests in..." dialog window.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * If individual tests were missing from a test suite (that is, *
    * the tests had been deleted after they were added to the *
    * suite), then when the suite was run, no errors or warnings *
    * were displayed. This could leave the user unaware that the *
    * tests the suite had run might not match expectations. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

Problem conclusion

  • The problem has been corrected in version 8.7.0 of Rational
Integration Tester, and a suite with missing (deleted) tests now
fails, with a message about the missing tests displayed on the
    console.
